"Motanka" - a new collection of designer t-shirts with a charitable purpose.
Andrii Tan has released a new collection called "Motanka": exclusive unisex t-shirts with prints in which the designer develops the image of motanka - a traditional Ukrainian doll, an ancient family amulet. In this way, Andrii Tan continues his experiments with modernizing and popularizing the rich Ukrainian cultural heritage. "Motanka" is not just a limited series of t-shirts. This is the first collection as part of the designer's future long-term cooperation with the charitable fund of Lilia Rebruk, which deals with issues of victims of full-scale Russian invasion. One of the fund's current projects - "Unbroken" - helps women and children who have lost their homes and jobs due to the war and are practically forced to start their lives from scratch.
A portion of the proceeds from each sold t-shirt from the "Motanka" collection, both offline in the network of retail stores "Andre Tan" and on the website, will be donated to the Lilia Rebruk fund for the "Unbroken" project. In addition, along with the t-shirts, collectible motanka dolls will be made. During the first week of sales, they can be obtained as a gift after purchasing a t-shirt, and later the dolls will also go on wide sale - and the proceeds from their sale will also be sent to the "Unbroken" project.
The face of the new collection is Ruslana Danilkina, a 19-year-old military woman from Odessa, who lost her leg in the war during the shelling. According to Andrii Tan, "she is an extremely strong and energetic personality who embodies the same Ukrainian resilience, and also by her example shows that Ukrainians are able to withstand any trials of fate - no difficulties can take away our thirst for life."
Andrii Tan: "I am currently actively studying Ukrainian history, trying to immerse myself in it as deeply as possible. I am extremely interested and inspired by the traditions, way of life, and costumes of our ancestors. One of such discoveries was the motanka doll - a knot doll, which was invented 5 thousand years ago and which has been present in Ukrainian culture since ancient times. It was such a talisman of each specific family, which was passed down from generation to generation, embodying knowledge, experience, and strength. A symbol of security that is always with you. I liked this idea, and besides, it seemed to me extremely relevant today when every Ukrainian needs protection, an amulet. I believe that traditions really have a magical power - including protective power."
